without words mime & Dance Ministry

Without Words Mime & Dance Ministry at Steadfast Baptist Church — Detroit is a bold, spirit-led family of believers who use the language of the body to proclaim the Gospel. Rooted in the joy and abandon of 2 Samuel 6:14 NIV — “David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might” — our ministry celebrates worship that moves. We believe movement itself can preach: posture, facial expression, choreography and stillness become tools the Holy Spirit uses to reach hearts, break strongholds, and invite people into relationship with Jesus.

Who we are

  • A welcoming ministry for anyone with a heart for God and a passion for movement. No professional training or prior experience is required — only a desire to worship and serve.

  • A team that values spiritual formation as much as technical growth. We teach scripture-driven worship, biblical stewardship of talent, and choreography that communicates truth, not self-promotion.

  • A community where discipline meets creativity: we rehearse, we pray, we study, and we steward our God-given gifts to glorify Christ alone.

What we do

  • Corporate Worship: We minister during Sunday services and special gatherings, using mime and dance to illuminate sermon themes, Scripture readings, and moments of corporate response.

  • Concerts & Outreach Events: We organize and participate in worship concerts and outreach nights—powerful, accessible productions designed to draw seekers and deepen the walk of believers.

  • Dancicals & Stage Productions: We develop full-length dancicals and drama-dance presentations combining storytelling, choreography, spoken word, and worship to communicate Gospel narratives and life-transforming testimonies.

  • Special Ceremonies: Weddings, funerals, baptisms, and dedication services receive sensitive, reverent movement ministry when requested.

  • Community & Youth Workshops: Training sessions, masterclasses, and youth-focused workshops cultivate skill, discipline, and spiritual maturity across age groups.

Why we dance

  • To exalt God: Our aim is never performance for applause but worship that points all glory to the Lord. Like David, we come stripped of pride and clothed in devotion, offering all we are for God’s honor.

  • To communicate truth: Movement can bypass defenses, touch memory, and open hearts. By pairing Scripture with intentional choreography, we make spiritual realities visible and tangible.

  • To invite others to Christ: Every routine, every worship set, and every outreach moment is crafted to draw people toward repentance, healing, and faith.

What membership looks like

  • A heart for Christ and commitment to spiritual growth. We expect members to participate in devotion, Scripture study, and regular prayer life.

  • Regular rehearsals and service availability. We rehearse consistently to ensure excellence in ministry and reliability for scheduled services and events.

  • A willingness to learn discipline and technique. We offer instruction in mime fundamentals, dance styles appropriate to corporate worship, stage presence, and nonverbal storytelling.

  • Team covenant: Members agree to humility, confidentiality for sensitive ministry moments, and a servant attitude that puts God and the congregation first.

How to get started

  • Attend an interest meeting or an open rehearsal. Come prepared to move, pray, and meet the team.

  • Participate in a short audition or observational session to evaluate fit for current ministry needs (not to gatekeep talent — to place you where you can best serve and grow).

  • Engage in our foundational training classes: biblical worship, movement basics, and ministry etiquette.

  • Join a ministry cohort: newcomers are paired with mentors to build skill, confidence, and spiritual grounding.

An invitation If you have ever felt stirred by a melody, compelled by Scripture, or moved by the Spirit to express truth through your body, Without Words welcomes you. Whether your movement is tentative or practiced, your presence can help us proclaim Christ without uttering a single syllable. Come with a willing heart, and let us teach you how to turn an idea — a conviction to worship — into a living testimony that draws others to Jesus.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
